People love my brownies! They are all my father-in-law wants for Hanukkah and his birthday, and I give them freely as Christmas gifts. I give full credit to the recipe, which my husband cut out of a magazine for me many years ago.  They are very rich and dense and chocolaty.  Plan on cutting them into pretty small pieces because a little goes a long way.  They are also really good with vanilla ice cream.  Oh man, I’m making myself hungry!  Here, exclusively for my readers, is my “secret” recipe.

Deep Dish Brownies

  • 3/4  cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2  cup cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease square pan.  Mix melted butter, sugar and vanilla.  Add eggs; beat with spoon.  In separate bowl mix flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; mix with wire whisk.  Gradually add flour mixture to egg mixture; mix with spoon just until blended.  Add chocolate chips.  Pour into prepared pan.  Bake 40-45 minutes.

**Do not over-mix.  Do all mixing by hand.

**Do not over cook.  Cook until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Merry Christmas!
