(I can see upon review that my last few posts have been virtual repetitions of these same ideas. It shows how desperately I’ve been trying to hold on to writing. Fortunately, things are truly calming down re: I’m living in my forever home. No more moving. And I’m retired, no more job and writing competing for attention. Yay, me!)

I’ve been a little missing in action these last couple of years as far as the whole “I’m a professional writer” thing. In spite of what people say about prioritizing your own needs and desires, that’s just not always possible or desirable. For me, the last two years have been consumed with Real Life including selling our Family Home, building our Dream House, Retirement, and celebrating the birth of our Precious Granddaughter. As you can imagine–and have probably lived yourself–the activities surrounding such life-changing events consumed considerable time and attention, but it was time spent in a (mostly) joyous celebration of the wonders of life.

(Writer brushes hands together in a dismissing motion.) 2022 and 2023 are now on the books, and it’s time to get back to work.

Primary goal for 2024? Finish my current work in progress, Suzanne’s Secrets. I began it even before Maisie’s List was published in 2020, and it’s time to “get ‘er done.” I’m 30,000 words in, with about 50,000 to go. Too bad I missed NaNoWriMo because that 50,000 word goal would have taken care of it. Oh well, it’s too late for that now. (Writer shrugs.)

By the time I leave for a quick trip to Atlanta on Saturday, I need to have 10-15 pages to my critique partners. 10-15 pages in 5 days? I’d better get busy.

Happy New Year to all! Whatever your goal for this year, I hope you achieve it and beyond!
