According to the Earth’s calendar, Autumn is does not start until September 22. According to my body calendar, Fall starts when school starts. For me that day is today. I have my first function of the year, a luncheon for new folks, because I am a mentor to the new parapros.
The leaves are a darker green. High School football begins in 3 weeks. Back to school sales are all over the place; and for the office supply stores like Staples and Office Depot, this is their Christmas. New school clothes are bought, new backpacks are packed, and notebook paper, pencils, pens and crayon packages are pristine and full of potential for amazing school work. On next Tuesday, the students will come to Open House to meet their new teachers and see their exciting classrooms decked out in an entire rainbow of colors and brimming with the teacher-prepared activities that will fill their next 180 school days.
Fall is my favorite time of year. I’ve been grumpy about school starting so early, but maybe I’m not so sorry after all.
